Forest Taxation Study
Full name: A Tax System That Makes Sense For Minnesota: Forestry Tax Reform (December 2000)
Summary: The study reviews the current application of property taxes to the state's forestlands, and reviews and compare Minnesota's current forest property tax structure with those that exist elsewhere. The study develops recommendations for changes in tax policy to: 1) encourage forest productivity; 2) maintain land in forest cover; and 3) encourage the application of sustainable site level forest management guidelines. Additionally, the study assesses local government revenue impacts associated with the state's current forest property tax structure, as well as alternative forest property tax law changes proposed.
Note: This study was conducted in part by MTA for the Minnesota Department of Revenue.
